There is no doubt that video games are a big part of our school. Just last year, there was a tournament for quite a few different games, but what are the preferred games, and game consoles, of students at Rangeview? For their opinion on this, the student body was asked.
In a poll, the top three games of 2014 were:
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and N3DS
- Destiny
- Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
Interestingly, none of these games have even come out yet. The Destiny open beta ended just recently; Super Smash Bros. was playable at E3 this year and has yet to be finished; and Pokémon is a remake of the original Ruby and Sapphire versions that is still in development.
“People played the early games of these series and look forward to the new additions,” said Bonnie Leslie, a senior here at Rangeview. Leslie argued that the top three games are unreleased because people want to see the evolution of their favorite game series.
In the same poll, our school chose these three systems as their favorite consoles:
- PC (Destroying the competition)
- Xbox 360
- A tie between PS3 and Xbox One
The so called “Console War” has been going on since the days of Atari and NES, players arguing constantly about which system is superior. Each fan argues for their console, but why that platform?
Junior Felix Gervan said, “The Console War is what makes companies strive to make the next best thing and one-up themselves again and again.” Gervan, a PC voter, stated that he found PC better because it is constantly improving, while the opposition improves every few years.
In the end, each console and game is better than the others in some aspect, but this is all a matter of opinion. The Console War will carry on, and never cease.
