Although they have had a lot of key runners graduate and now currently have three seniors on the team, there are still high expectations from returning runners. With lots of young runners having to step up and fill big shoes, it is going to be an interesting season. Coach Emilee Velander stated, “This is what makes the season fun.”
Along with young, new runners making improvements, the team as a whole is making some big strides. Coach Velander said, “The biggest improvement is how willing the team is to study the sport.” This is a great thing to hear that the team has grown in other aspects rather than running. Also, Velander says, “This is the most resilient team I remember in recent memory.”
With top runners both on boys and girls varsity there are high expectations. On boys varsity, there are juniors Kimi Bulto and Simon Caicedo leading them. On Girls Varsity there is returning sophomore Elli Wright who has already placed 10th this season. As well as returning senior Leah Mather, who is currently injured.
With everybody from the coaches to the runners making improvements, this is suspected to be a big season for the whole team. As much as people think the sport is about running it is more of a mental battle and these athletes are some of the strongest at Rangeview.
