Junior RHS swim captain Lauren Graff, junior Keaghan Banatis, sophomore Jasmine Johnson, freshman Irene Kim, junior Sarah Mortenson, sophomore Haley Zant: these are all names of the girls from Rangeview’s girls swim team that made it to state, capping one of the team’s best seasons in years.
After winning the EMAC championships last week for the first time in Rangeview history, these swimmers look forward to state.
“I’m really happy I made it and I’m really proud of our team and everyone that made it as well,” said Johnson.
Although three of the state qualifiers don’t actually attend Rangeview — Kim and Zant both attend Vista Peak, while Sarah Mortenson is home schooled — the team has completed many group-oriented goals this season, such as winning the APS and EMAC championships. Even though not all of the team has made it to state, Mr. Gerard believes they are proud and support each other’s goals and will try to help them accomplish them.
“As the team progressed through the season, they have gelled into a team that supports each other and works together towards common goals,” said Coach Gerard.
The girls that will compete in state swim tomorrow at 2pm in Fort Collins. Many say that girls have worked hard and definitely deserve to get to this point.
“I’m super blessed to have been part of such a hard-working and talented team,” said sophomore varsity swimmer Avery Hill. “For the girls who made it to state, I couldn’t be more proud. They all work so hard and the really deserve it.”
Rangeview is the first APS school to ever win the EMAC championship and the girls who made it to state are setting big goals.
“I want to do better than top 40, I want to get at least top 30 this year,” said Johnson.
With the girls accomplishing many goals this season many say they hope the girls iin state can accomplish this one.
