This past Friday and Saturday, the Rangeview wrestling team competed in the 5A Region 1 tournament. Of the ten wrestlers who weighed in, there were five placers: senior Bryan Fierro placed 2nd, senior Matthew Shriver placed 4th, sophomores Spencer Ohu and Rudy Cortez placed 5th, and freshman Romeo Cortez placed 6th.
This tournament saw the end of the season and the end of a high school career for some, but also gave others their first chance at wrestling in the CHSAA State Wrestling Championships this weekend. Fierro, Shriver, and Ohu will be representing Rangeview on the 15th, 16th, and 17th at the Pepsi Center. Fierro is a returning state wrestler, while Shriver and Ohu will be first-time competitors.
“I feel like everything aligned to allow me to achieve a big goal of mine well before I, and everyone else, expected me to be able to do it, and it makes me feel special and truly blessed,” said Ohu.
Stay tuned for updates on the CHSAA State Wrestling Championships.
