Song of the Week: “Floyding” the Capital
April 26, 2018
Feature photo by: Amor-Leigh Wilson-Social Studies teacher Mrs.Walsh takes time to play Pink Floyd’s song, “Don’t Need No Education”. She uses the song to help create a safe place for student discourse regarding the teacher protest tomorrow. When asked about how the song relates to events happening today Walsh explained, “This is educational funding. This is political. People don’t like to be told what to do but when you don’t have education you don’t have democracy.” Then later adds, “Schools want everyone to think alike and that is not going to be accepted anymore.” Tomorrow teachers, students, and supporters all over Colorado will gather at the state capitol from 9am to 4pm. The protest is demanding an increase in money spent on education in the state and a change in the payment of teachers all across Colorado. There will be no school for all APS schools tomorrow on April 27.
