Reece Berkey is coming off of a torn ACL injury from last year, and people say they are excited to see what he can do.
The Rangeview Raiders have started their football season, and Reece Berkey is going to be a varsity player for them, as he is in the running for starting quarterback this year.
Reece was playing both offense and defense during Rangeview’s first game on Friday. He plays the raider position on defense, and quarterback on offense. Even though they lost, some say it was a very good sight for many to see Reece out there after not being able to play last year.
“I feel a lot better and more motivated because when I was injured, it was rough not being able to play.” said sophomore varsity quarterback Berkey. “Now I play like everything is my last.”
Head coach Brandon Alconcel was asked about how he thinks Reece will bounce back after the injury from last year.
“I think Reece put in a ton of work over the summer, and I think he’s going to be ready to go and compete on both sides of the ball.” said Coach Alconcel.
Reece’s close friend and teammate, sophomore Marcus Alvarez has a lot of confidence in Berkey, as he stated, “Reece is going to ball out this year,” said Alvarez. “He hasn’t been on the football field for a year. He’s going to be a player that you’ve never seen before.”
Reece was responsible for the first touchdown of the season that came during their game vs. Far Northeast. He will be playing in the homecoming game on Thursday, September 13th vs. Mountain Range at APS stadium. Many people will be watching as he says he has no fear, following last year’s injury.
