It hasn’t been the easiest season, as boys tennis is having a rough start after eight seniors graduated, but their improvement is showing behind veteran Max McGinnis.
Despite losing most of their best talents they needed to bring in some new talent and new head coach Phil Elbein believes they have.
Coach Elbein said, “We havenew players growing.” Even with losing 2 of their 3 singles players, they have returning senior Max McGinnis who had a solo record of 7-2 last year.
“We have seen some good growth from our returning players.” As Coach Elbein mentioned, “While not just looking at the star players there is lots of roster turnover and young players growing”.
Obviously, with Coach Brecht and Coach Elbein, there is going to be lots of improvement this year. With tons of new players to the sport, they have to work even harder to play for varsity. Even players who have previously placed on varsity have to play hard to secure their spot within varsity.
Then, focusing more on the teams practicing than just the matches they play. Boys tennis has to go practice at Gateway, this is because the courts were deemed unplayable. As well as making sure they have buses just so they can practice. Luckily Coach Elbein and Brecht are able to get the buses or they wouldn’t be able to have a season.
Lastly, we hope to see an overall improvement in the team as a whole. Also, young players are improving. Concluding, we hope to see them improve their total win percentage of 36.71.
