Flag Football
With the end of the 2023 girls’ football season, there are a lot of things left to recap. The Lady Raiders have brought their season to a close on October 7th, 2023.
This year, they made the playoffs which is very exceptional, especially for a first-year team whose coaches got switched up as the season was just getting started. During playoffs, they won their first game
Coach Mosley, Coach Carter, and others coached the Lady Raiders this year. In the span of a few weeks, these coaches sprung together and made the only Rangeview playoff-making team this fall.
Coach Mosley, the head coach of girls’ flag football, is very passionate about coaching. Not only does he go out of his way to look out for his players but he even takes classes to better himself for them. After interviewing him, Coach Mosley stated, “I like the coaching process. The process of development for both coaches and players. Seeing coaches and players grow throughout the year.” A quote that Mosley resonates with is “Deep down, your players must know you must care about them. This is the most important thing… They know, in the long run, (that) I’m in their corner.”
Many, if not all girls, on the team, believe Coach Mosley is one of the best coaches they’ve had. Many said how dedicated he was throughout the season and how confident he made them feel.
Mosley seemed to be very proud of everyone on the team equally and couldn’t pick an outstanding player. He knows that with hard work and dedication, the team will just get better.
There was a lot of dedication to the sport from coaches, staff, and players alike. Players dedicated so much so that they ended up with many major injuries including ACL tears, countless concussions, and collarbone injuries to say the least. No matter the injury the Lady Raiders continued to push through adversity and finish the season strong.
Football
The upcoming season for the Rangeview Football team seems like it will be very controversial in their journey to competing for a championship. The squad has gone through a blunder of wins and losses, to say the least with mountainous expectations for their futures. Their last season was filled with “memorable moments” such as our notorious rivalry game win against Vista Peak High or the fact that 6 people got injured throughout 10 games in the Varsity team alone. After the debut of the new football coach, Christopher Dickson, the team managed to have the best record in Rangeview Football history since their record-breaking 7-3 season in 2015. Coach Dixon had a lot to say about the upcoming season and the future of the Raiders, “…you get out what you put in. I expect our football team to be hardworking, resilient, and fighters.” He also mentioned, “A lot of players put in the work this summer and I think it’s about time it pays off. I’m hoping for a healthy season. We have a few injuries, so it’s an opportunity for other players to step up! I want our team to improve each year. We won 5 games last year and if we can win we are in the playoffs “
Returning Senior Jahiem Alexander led the team in overall receiving yards with 28.4 yards per game as well as receiving many touchdowns last season. If it wasn’t for their very own Taylor Thomas, the offensive lineup last year would have broken down alongside our season record. Another well-performing Raider was Kevin Prosser. In the games he played, He led the Raiders in tackles per game with 5.6 but after a dirty play from Central, he tore his ACL and was injured for the rest of the season. Now with Kp and Jah healed up the rest of the team will be coming back this year with a vengeance for the whole league.
After all the controversy last year with the brawl at Central and the devastating 56-0 loss to Northridge, we are left to question if this season will be any different for the Raiders or if they will miss their opportunity once again.
Cross-Country
With Cross Country’s best runners Simon Chiguasuque Caicedo and Leah Mather having season-ending injuries, the team heavily relied on the next top runners Kimi Bulto and Eliana Wright. Despite the team’s adversities, Kimi and Eliana didn’t fold under pressure, achieving personal bests both in the 5000m and 3000m respectively.
Despite this, they placed at the bottom of the Aurora City and 5a Region Championships. With only four senior seniors this year, there were no big expectations, but next year should be an incredible season. With most of the top runners returning and growing they should be able to challenge for the championships
Based on what we know from coach Emilee Velander they are a very resilient team with a great future. This leaves us to expect them to bounce back next year with returning Seniors and Juniors leading the team to the championship.
Softball
The Lady Softball team ended their season with a great 11-4 win against Northglenn and a 9-14 record starting the season and 8th in the Denver Prep League. With 17 Varsity players 6 of them will be leaving seniors, the raiders are hoping to see improvement next season to pull JV athletes up.
The team will be losing a lot of key players such as #10, Pitcher, Senior Scalette Heredia who was 3rd in the state for strikeouts. Along with #12, First Base, Senior Zariah Lopez ranked second in the Colorado Division 5A and 18th in the state for Stolen bases. Losing these star players will be a heartache for the progression of the team.
Volleyball
The Lady Raiders ended their season with a loss to Riverdale Ridge 1-2 and also finished with a 12-11 record. This led them to take a 4th finish in the Denver Prep League under Vista Peak Prep.
This team of 11 girls will only be losing 4 Seniors this season, leading to high expectations for the underclassman to take over. Upcoming senior Anika Davison did amazing for the team having 2.4 kills per game, and 4.4 digs per game alongside upcoming senior Maddie Kilmer.
While talking to upcoming senior Maddie Kilmer, she said she is hoping the team steps up in the future and applies corrections quicker so that the downfall that happened in the middle of this season does not continue to future seasons. Once this adjustment is made Kilmer believes this will uplift the team leading them to success. She hopes to help the team gain leadership and positivity all around to help them work together as one.
Boys Tennis
Rangeview boy’s soccer season came to an end after a 3-1 loss against Far Northwestern Warriors. The team was consistent with their plays throughout the whole season. Seeing old players maintain the backbone to ensure the team’s success to new rising players demonstrating determination and courage to play with and against top players. Captains Ryan Harcrow and Anthony Hernandez demonstrated great leadership in assuring the team didn’t stray far from their end goal of making playoffs. Unfortunately, the team’s efforts in continuing to play after they lost to a team brought them down. There wasn’t a game this whole season where the team didn’t aim to have a score on the board. The team fought hard to end the season on a good note, they kept their enthusiasm as a team-high, not giving up and making a family out of a solid team. Senior goalkeeper Randy Morales came in a few games after Junior Tristan Heinzerling kept a consistent win percentage for the team, to maintain the average that was in place. A solid ending to the Rangeview boy’s season.
