As the school year slowly comes to a halt, students are being called to pick and arrange their classes for the 2024-2025 school year schedule. However with those new schedules, some new rules and expectations have been created.
As of next year, Rangeview students won’t be able to change their schedule unless there are complications with CCA, Pickens, or crucial reasons.
This has come as a shock to a few people although it has been stated that this was always a policy at the school. The only reason previous years were different was due to COVID-19. From there on the reduced and changing schedules carried on, but as the new school year rolls around this will not be the case anymore.
This is due to the scheduling problems as when they allowed schedule changes throughout the year it would result in an uneven amount of classes. There would be teachers having 15 students in their class while others are left with 36. This resulted in the Rangeview administration deciding it’s best to no longer accept the schedule changes.
However, that isn’t the only reason. One other reason is that Rangeview was the only High School to even have reduced scheduling. This is caused by the amount of colleges that disapprove lower amounts of classes. Many colleges prefer to see students have at least 5 classes every year. It also allows students to become more involved in the school community and finish their senior year strong. When given only 1-2 classes it adds to the lack or want to arrive to just go to those few classes.
Lastly, one of the biggest reasons for no longer allowing all the schedule changes is the effects it has on not only the school finances but also the teachers and staff as well. If students sign up for classes such as regular English, the staff are having to arrange to have enough teachers to teach those classes. This causes teachers to teach classes they wouldn’t normally have taught before. But if students switch out of classes it leaves all the planning of the classes useless, leaving the teachers stranded with little to no students in their classes. Overall, reduced schedules were not fair to students or staff. Furthermore, this can also lead to useless spending on certain supplies and money going toward these ghost classes.
Although it can be said that the new schedule rules aren’t enjoyable, it not only helps the staff but also helps students have a better chance at amazing opportunities and long-lasting futures here at Rangeview.
