After only three seasons as Rangeview’s Head Football Coach, Christopher Dixon has resigned. On Monday, December 9th an email was sent out to Rangeview Football players and families announcing the resignation of Coach Dixon. The responsibilities of Dixon’s current position as a Dean and Athletic Director at Columbia Middle school along with family responsibilities led to his resignation.
The Rangeview program has shown signs of stabilization under Dixon, but being out of the building is a difficult task for a head football coach at a school as large as Rangeview. Dixon was 10-20 as the head coach. A 4-6 season with a victory over rival Vista Peak this past year was an improvement over the 2023 1-9 season.
Dixon’s resignation came as a surprise to many players on the football team. “Next season I think it’s going to be a little different, he was the main leader of our program,” said Junior Adam Christopher.
Now Rangeview football will be on to their fifth coach in nine seasons. Wth the program having to deal with so many coaching changes in the past decade athletic director Erick Swanson stated, “this decision was made with careful consideration of the program’s needs and our commitment to providing the best possible experience for our student-athletes. We understand that transitions like this can bring uncertainty, and I want to assure you that our focus remains on building a strong, competitive, and supportive program.”
There are no obvious candidates for the position at this time and Rangeview isn’t the only APS football opening this offseason.
“The search process will prioritize finding a coach who shares our vision for the growth and development of both the program and the individual athletes. We will seek a leader who embodies the values of Rangeview Athletics and can inspire our student-athletes on and off the field,” stated Swanson.
This is a developing story.
