Swimming hopes to make a splash this season

Feature Photo By: Heidi Kelly – The Rangeview girls swim team gathers for a team photo. The Raiders hope to send even more swimmers to state this year.
Last season, the swim team won league championships, and went almost undefeated in league, only losing to Brighton. They also placed 3rd at the EMAC Conference meet behind Brighton and Northglenn. This season they have plans to get first or second in their EMAC meet, as they have placed third for three years in a row.
“We lost six seniors last year,” said Coach Gerard, “They were very experienced leaders.” The team is excited to see what the incoming freshman to the team have to offer.
The team is hoping that although they lost six seniors and didn’t score at state last year, they will be able to do better with the incoming talent and the returning talent they will be more successful than before.
“The team is definitely different now that we lost some seniors, but each person lost is another chance for someone new,” said senior Sidney Comet.
Last year, only one member of the swim and dive team, sophomore Sarah Mortenson was able to compete at state for diving. She was the first Rangeview diver to compete at state in fourteen years. Sarah is a part of the Rangeview swim and dive team, but she is homeschooled.
“The freshmen we have coming in are really fast,” said Gerard, “We have a lot of young talent. I hope we send more to state and score.”
If you want to watch the swim and dive team this season, their home meets start after school at 4:00.
