As the spring sports season comes to an end, the boys swim team is preparing for their league competition. The team will be competing against four other teams at Hinkley high school today, May 12th, and tomorrow.
So far, the team has had a very successful season. This year, the team has gone undefeated at every dual meet and has already had three relays and three individuals qualify for the state competition. As opposed to only two relays last year.
Coach Himes commented, “Overall this team is really doing well this season and has more state qualifiers then we have in the last 4 years.”
Below is a list of the state qualifiers:
- Elisha Baughman (11), Nate Leigh (11), David Griffith (11), and Danyion Reagan (11) are competing in the 200 medley relay
- Griffith is competing in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle
- Edgar Mondragon (12), Griffith, Leigh, and Reagan are competing in the 200 freestyle relay
- Leigh is competing in the 100 breaststroke
- Darrin Fauser (11), Griffith, Leigh, and Reagan are competing in the 400 freestyle relay
- Isaiah Cheeks (11), ranked top 10 in the state, will be competing in diving and also a relay
Since the Rangeview team is a compilation of swimmers from all over APS, some of the swimmers listed above do not attend Rangeview.
Fauser, a first year state qualifier, said, “It’s honestly probably one of the most exciting things [going to state]! It feels so good to really know how good you are at your sport.”
The league competition starts at 4:30pm today and 12:30pm tomorrow. This will be the last meet before the state competition on the 19th and 20th.
