Finishing last year with an overall record of 12-4-1, many students have said the boys soccer team had a successful season, but they’re not satisfied and want to achieve more.
Looking ahead, The Raiders have an intense schedule against some of last year’s top teams like Hinkley, Grandview, and Far Northeast. This gives the Raiders a chance to cement themselves as one of the top teams in the 5A division once again.
“It’s a privilege to have those kinds of incentives,” says junior player Rashid Seidu-Aroza, “we can’t take any of it for granted.”
Most of last year’s players will return, indicating that not that many players will be listed on the varsity pool.
Sophomore Kevin Phung said, “I personally think that varsity soccer is going to be really good and do better than they did before. The roster is definitely looking better — they look confident and determined to win.”
The varsity captain is senior Alexis Flores who led the team in goals scored last season (22).
Varsity Head Coach Vic Strouse said, “I’m excited — new varsity players are preparing themselves and learning from their mistakes as time goes on.”
The Raiders won Sunday’s game against Aurora Central 4-1 after losing their previous game against Rocky Mountain 3-2. The Raiders start the season 1-2.
Principal Ronald Fay added, “Based off of what Coach Strouse told me about Saturday’s scrimmages, I’m very optimistic along with Strouse — I have high hopes for the team’s season.”
