With winter being just around the corner, Aurora Public Schools Officials state that there will be no remote learning on snow days for the 2021-2022 school year. After surveying parents and students in late August, the support for no more remote learning snow days was more than clear.

¨I would not like remote snow days because since we already did remote learning for a whole year it would only be fair to take a break from it when it snows. The whole point of a snow day is to have the day off,¨ said sophomore Naura Yededji.

Aurora Public Schools official stated, ¨Sure, dream of fluffy days all you want, but snow kidding, don’t come crying when the piper has to be paid next spring and additional days could be added to the school year to make up for the stuff kid dreams are made of.”

The comments were a bit confusing for many as Rangeview and other APS schools have a 172 day calendar with just under 1,250 hours for the school year. CDE only requires districts to meet two conditions: having more than 160 days and more than 1,080 hours of seat time are required. This would mean Rangeview could have up to 12 days cancelled before it falls to those minimums.

Students’ feelings were mixed about the survey with the mixed information.

¨Originally I said that we should not have school, but now that I am thinking back on it I feel like I should’ve put away learning so that the days don’t add up at the end of the year,¨ said junior Kristabelle Dutton.

The traditional snow day closures will continue for the 2021-2022 school year.
