I went to a total of 10 concerts this year and I felt like it was needed for me to do a rating of all of the concerts I attended. I just love going to concerts and it is one of the main things I like to do in my free time. Music is truly a passion of mine and music has also gotten me through many hard times in my life. My two favorite music genres are R&B and Hip Hop. These two genres are meaningful to me because they represent a part of my identity and my culture. All of the concerts I went to this year were either R&B or Hip Hop concerts.

Ari Lennox, Summit Music Hall
I love Ari Lennox a lot & I truly enjoyed her concert. It was very chill and laid back, she performed a lot of my favorite songs. The song I liked the most that she performed was her song BMO (Break Me Off). I overall give Ari Lennox a 10/10

Eric Bellinger & Trevor Jackson, Marquis Theatre
This concert was also a very great concert as well. I just feel like R&B concerts just always have a chill vibe to them. I also got to meet Trevor Jackson which was unreal. They performed very well, & Trevor Jackson even went into the crowd. My friend and I literally screamed when he went into the crowd. I rate it a 10/10.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Mission Ballroom
This concert was literally a journey. The concert had to be rescheduled to April 28th because at the first show people were fighting so it had to be canceled. It was very ghetto and I also felt uncomfortable. On the rescheduled date it was still very ghetto and people were still fighting in the crowd. It was also very crowded and I had little to no room to move. I think A boogie Wit Da Hoodie did perform well and it was nice to see him perform in person. I did enjoy myself a little as well. However, with all the circumstances I rate this concert a 6/10.

Bryson Tiller, The Fillmore
This concert was a great experience. The pre show was so fun and the DJ played so much great music. When Bryson came out my heart sunk. I literally sang my heart out when he performed his hit single ‘Don’t’. I rate this concert a 8/10 just because I could not see Bryson Tiller’s face that well and I feel like he could’ve performed a little more songs, but overall it was great.

Larry June, Summit Music Hall
Larry June was great as well. There was a fight in the crowd though before he came out, which kind of ruined my experience. However, I enjoyed myself and I was so hype when he performed ‘Let Me Water My Plant’. I overall give this concert a 9/10.

Musiqsoulchild, Five Points Juneteenth Music Festival
This concert experience was enjoyable. The celebration of Juneteenth also made it more fun as well. This concert was outside and just being in the sun singing your heart out with others was very enjoyable for me. Musiqsoulchild is a great performer and his stage presence is immaculate. I give this concert a 10/10.

Stunna Girl, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
Stunna Girl was very interesting. There was literally a fight at her concert. I liked the openers of the show. One of the openers was a local artist named Kaliya Nyree and I love her music. I was so hype when Stunna Girl came out and I was lit during her performance.
However, Stunna Girl barely performed and this was the shortest set I have ever seen from a music artist. This is the main reason why I rate this concert a 4/10 along with the fights that occurred. I think hip hop concerts just need to have more of a chill vibe because at most of the hip hop concerts that I attend there is always an altercation or a fight.

Brent Faiyaz, Mission Ballroom
I loved seeing Brent Faiyaz and I was so close to the stage at this concert. I sang my heart out to so many of his songs and I truly enjoyed myself. However, I do feel like he could’ve performed a little longer. However, he still is a great performer and I love his music a lot. I rate this concert a 9/10.
August 17th, 2023
Coco Jones, Gothic Theatre
Coco Jones was such an enjoyable concert. I got to meet the opener, Ebony Riley, and her music is so breathtaking. Seeing CoCo Jones performing ‘ICU’ was the highlight of the concert, I truly sang my heart out. I honestly have no complaints about this concert and I rate it a 10/10

Chase Shakur, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
I enjoyed myself at this concert and it had a chill and laid back vibe. Chase Shakur is an underrated R&B artist but he is truly talented. I loved seeing him perform ‘Cascade Road’ and this is my most favorite song from his album ‘it’s not you, it’s me… its love‘. I overall give this concert a 10/10.
Overall, My most favorite concert from the year would either be Bryson Tiller or Brent Faiyaz. Although they did not receive 10/10 ratings from me they are my top favorite R&B artists. Getting to see them perform in person for the first time was such a great experience, and I got to hear some of my most favorite songs from them like ‘Clouded’ and ‘Don’t‘.
