With spring sports starting up, the girls tennis team will be starting their season coming out of a season of 64W-15L. Last year, the girls varsity tennis team won their EMAC conference, going 9-0 in conference and 10-1 overall with a winning percentage of 81.01%.
“We have a more talented team this year than we did last,” said Makenzie Bell, a junior on the team, “and with that, if we put in the work and stay motivated, then we can come up with another league championship and a run for state.”
The girls varsity team this year is coached by Coach Emmer — a second year head coach for the Lady Raiders tennis team. The Lady Raiders have been league champions for the past three years under their two head coaches, Emmer and Forde.
“I’m feeling optimistic for this season,” said Coach Emmer “I think we are poised for the new year considering we have eight returning varsity players who are seniors now. The beginning of the season has been productive and our next match is against Eaglecrest on Friday March 16th.”
With eight returning varsity players, the Raiders’ varsity roster is already full of experience. To many of the players, the season ahead for the Raiders brings more hope, wisdom, and relationships to the team and coaches.
“This season is going to be amazing,” said senior Tyla Berry “… Mainly because the varsity and JV girls have been able to spend a lot of time together to build chemistry, so I believe we will become a lot stronger than last year.”
The girls varsity tennis is looking for a spring into the season with a match on Friday, March 16th against Eaglecrest High School.
