Every year, Rangeview’s varsity volleyball team has always welcomed an abundance of new faces to the team, and some say that makes it extremely difficult to fill certain spots. However, this new volleyball season has welcomed back almost every player from last year except for from the graduating class of 2018.
For the most part, the team remains the same as the new additions to the team have played varsity before. This includes seniors Karly Trimble and Morgan Salter as well as juniors Katelynn Starkey and Allison Powell.
Senior and fan Lauryn Bradley explains, “The ladies are ahead when it comes to other teams because they already know each other really well.”
With that being said, some believe that becoming EMAC champions again this year will be a breeze and qualifying for state may be in the cards for the ladies.
“I think we will do really well.” says senior and four year varsity player Alexia Hurtado, “I think the chemistry that we have as a team from last year is still really high. And we filled the spots from the seniors that left really well.”
Last year the ladies ended their season with an overall record of 15-10 coming out as all EMAC champions. The ladies have set many goals for this year, one being to end their season with an overall record of 17-2.
According to Head Coach Doug Walker the ladies are taking a one match at a time approach in order to achieve their goals for this year.
According to the ladies, they started working before the volleyball season officially started through having many pre-season workouts and scrimmages.
Senior Cheyanne Boe says, “We have been working very hard. We had workouts and our work ethic is good…”
The the season started with a match against Denver South Tuesday August 28th, taking their first win of the season. After that the ladies took on Dakota Ridge going into a fifth set, but falling short with a score of 3-2 on Thursday August 30th. Tuesday September 4th, the ladies secured a second win against Northglenn High school with a final score of 3-0. So far the ladies have started their season strong with an overall record of 3-1.
The next game will be a home conference game today September 6th against Westminster high school at 6:30pm.
