For this cross country season, the boys team is looking to improve their runners from last year. Last week the varsity runners finished 7th out of 22 schools with Lakewood High School and Prairie View High School right behind and finished 8th and 9th out of 21 schools. The last few meets the team has placed 10th place or higher.
As of now, last year was more successful for the varsity boys’ team at the Elizabeth cross country Invitational as they finished 4th out of 15 schools–this year they finished 10th out of 21 schools.
“Win league and have everyone improve,” were the goals of cross country coach Matthew Fenimore.
The varsity runners are consistent with the times spanning from 18 minutes to 22 minutes in the top 7 of our school. The fastest runners are senior Michael George finishing at 18:43 minutes, sophomore Julian Torres finishing at 19:36 minutes, and sophomore Trevor Gregory finishing at 20:05 minutes in the 5k event.
In regards to who the fastest runners are, sophomore Andrew Coleman said, “Michael George, Trevor Gregory, Julian Torres, Nicholas Provancel, Jonathan Lopez, Josh Nuttall, and Ryan Slocum.” These runners are also the top 7 that finished at the meets on the 13th of September and the 8th of September.
The team is not lacking in numbers, considering the new runners they gained and the old runners that graduated. The amount of freshmen from last year is the same amount this year, and the amount of seniors is also the same from last year.
The next boys varsity cross country meet is September 30th at Thornton High School.
