This year has been full of new things for the track team. New coach, new uniforms, and even new records. This past weekend at the EMAC Champions meet, the boys became league champions for the first time since 2012 and even more impressive to most, the girls became champs for the first time since 1992.
The boys were league champions in the 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m, and set an EMAC record in the 4x100m relay.
Senior captain Jayvion Swain, who took part in the 4x200m, says, “It was the moment we all were
waiting for and we went out and did what needed to be done.”
For the girls, they were league champions and set records in the 4x100m and 4x200m. There were also some individual standout performances from the girls.
Sophomore Lushous Davis was named the EMAC Field MVP, junior Dawnielle Lewis became a league champ in the 100m and 200m, and junior captain Jasmine Bowman set an EMAC record in the 400m.
Lewis says, “I’m super proud of our team and all the records we brought back to Rangeview… we performed great as a whole.”
The girls had a close fight for first but were able to beat a competitive Brighton team while the boys beat their rival Gateway for first as well.
Head Coach Chris Carhartt says, “What we did means a lot to me personally because coming over it was my goal since I did it at Hinkley… we have a much better team here and our numbers were our only one goal.”
This Saturday will be the last meet held by Rangeview High School to qualify for state. It will take place at Aurora Public Schools Stadium at 9am.
