The swimming season has just begun and the Raiders are ready to get back on the diving boards. Practicing a total of six times every week, many say the ladies do not show any signs of slowing down this season. Living up to the expectations that last season left them, pushes the ladies for the league win this year.
Senior and captain Lauren Graff said, “We have set a lot of goals that keep us focused.”
The ladies won leagues last year and want to continue that legacy this year.
Coach Gerad is looking to send more swimmers to state this year, thus bringing back even more wins.
Senior as well as former swimmer Karly Trimble states, “We won league… and that really boosted our confidence in ourselves as well as the confidence that our coach has in us.”
Some say the ladies easily won league as undefeated champions last year. Despite what it may have appeared to be, the ladies truly worked hard for their spot.
With the their biggest competitor last year being Brighton High School, they have much to prepare for this year.
Brighton was ranked second in league trailing right under Rangeview by one loss. Brighton had a 10-3 in league record compared to Rangeview’s 11-0 record.
The girls remain confident that they can repeat the league win for this new season, they were able to beat Brighton by 26 points last season and want to have a greater lead this time around.
“The girls this season are just as strong as the girls last season,” Graff stated. “I’ve seen a lot of improvement in a lot of the newer swimmers… we have a really strong team”.
As team captain Graff wants the girls to always have a positive mind set specifically when it comes to practice. She feels that it benefits everyone and allows all the girls to bond and grow as a team.
The ladies have been working in and outside of the pool when it comes to preparing for the season.
Freshman and new swimmer to the team Elizabeth Sanders states, “We practice all the time and I think we are ready for the season.”
The lady Raider’s first meet is today at 5:00pm here at Rangeview against Brighton.
