Rangeview’s Varsity Wrestling team started the 25-26 season slowly, with only picking up one team win at the Golden Invitational in early December. Followed by a bad team loss to Eaglecrest on the 10th, with only one wrestler, Biram Griffey, picking up a fall. After this slow start to the season, the team has really started to gain momentum, ending December with two big team wins over Denver West and Thomas Jefferson, and placing 7th out of 24 teams at the Gil Chavez Sr. Memorial Tournament. They kept that momentum coming out of break, placing 5th at the Leo Rex Wrestling Tournament.
Even though wrestling is a team sport, everybody’s performance relies on each other to achieve a team win. It is also important to look at the individual wrestler’s performance. Rangeview’s top wrestler is Biram Griffey, who wrestles in the 285 weight division and has picked up 25 individual wins on the season, contributing to 131 team points. He has also placed second twice and third place once in recent tournaments. Following Griffey, the team has lots of top-tier talent in Guy Evilsizer, Alec Romero, Sayed Sina Hooseiny, Josh Fennelly, and Jesse Monterey, all racking up more than 15 wins already in the season.
With all the talent Rangeview’s wrestling team has, and what is looking like one of the best all-around teams we have seen in a while, continued success is expected. They should finish the season out strong and hopefully have some wrestlers make a run in the state playoffs.
