After the Rangeview Boys hoops commanded a dominant 79 – 43 win over No. 19-ranked Northfield, improving to a record of 8-3 on the year, its clear RHS is a major contender for the state championship. These dominant performances are no surprise since the Raiders have already taken on national powers like Carter (Dallas), Redondo Union (LA), and Riviera Prep (Miami) in the Tarkainian Classic. “We play a national schedule this year, playing multiple teams ranked in the top 100 of the country,” said head coach Shawn Palmer.
This season has not been an easy one by any means, full of nail-biting close games and overtime thrillers coming down to the buzzer, but Coach Palmer is confident in his team and believes they are more than prepared for the rest of the season to come. “We have a very talented group that plays at a fast pace and is connected defensively.”
The Raider defense has held a third of their opponents to 40 or fewer points this season, spearheaded by star Sophomore Marceles Duncan who leads the team in blocks, steals and rebounds; on the offensive side of the ball the Raiders are led by junior Archie Weatherspoon V who is averaging 21.6 points per game on 56% shooting from the field and 40% from beyond the arc through 11 games.
The boys look to keep the momentum going as they head into the second half of their season, ranked 5th in the state, where they will take on league rival George Washington, Wednesday night at home and perennial contender Denver East on Friday.
