After what some consider a great season last year, the Rangeview track team is ready to lace up and pick up where they left off.

Last year, the team won league under the guidance of first year head coach Chris Carhart — some say he is also already making an impact on  the school at an academic level. Many agree Carhart leads athletes and help them achieve success within their athletics.

“I’m excited about the season,” said Carhart. “We’re gonna do our best to make sure everyone gets better and see if we can defend our titles.”

It isn’t only their coach who has that fire coming into the season, many of the members on the team have the same positive mindset.

Junior Kevon Smith said, “I think it is going to go very well for us, we have a lot of great players from last year. We are also a lot  stronger and wiser than we were last year.”

Since last year was the team’s first year with Carhart, it only makes sense for the bond between both players and coach will be greater.

Last year, the track team was dominate in sprints with their fastest sprinters being alumni Erick Jackson and David Aggrey.

The events some say need work include the pole and the jumps.

“[Last year] we didn’t have any pole vaulters,” said junior track athlete Jacquie Lee-Ricks, “we also didn’t do good in our jumps last year.”

Despite the need for improvement in some areas, the team looks forward to a great season.

“The beginning might be a little rough cause we gotta get into that process of winning and getting better PRs (personal records),” said junior Lushous Davis.

With the motivation that the team has the sky’s the limit this season.
